Picture Book Marathon 2011 - Day 20

So far behind schedule.  Must catch up.

Plot Synopsis:  

Rooster has a cold.  And try as he might, every morning when he tries to wake the farm, he can't get out more than a tiny squeak.  The farmer, fed up with late morning wake ups, is starting to interview new birds for the job.  Rooster has to do something.

All of the animals try to help out and offer various remedies for Rooster's cold.  "Chicken soup?  Are you crazy!?!"

Will Rooster find his crow again?  (I'm pretty sure that he will.)

Animal Math - New Creative Writing Prompt for C.K.C.

Let's get to it.

Yeah, I like animals doing silly things.  When I'm stuck for something interesting to draw or write I usually try to take something normal and add something unusual to change it up.  Interesting stories often follow.

I find this prompt to be especially fun on the illustration side of things.

For an example of this type of story come to fruition, check out David Shannon's "Duck on a Bike." It's super fun.  And I LOVE David Shannon's illustrations.

We ate at the Crayon Restaurant again recently.  Tiff requested an elephant playing badminton with a mouse.  And so:

PS: did any of you folks know that badminton is spelled with an 'n'?  I sure didn't until about two minutes ago.

Happy Birthday to Me

It was my birthday the other day and Michelle Weaver, an art friend of mine asked me what she should draw on my birthday card this year. I responded something like, "Can you draw me a monster? But not a gross or scary monster. I don't want it to be hyper cute either. Can you draw me a monster that is only slightly threatening but still kind of benign. Like a monster that would only beat you up if you got on it's nerves. Can you do that?"

As it turns out, she can do that.

Korean Hamsters in Various Costumes

A couple of days ago I visited my wife's 6th grade class to help out a bit and listen to a really cool lecture on space by Dr. Ed Gholdston of NASA (but that's another story.)  After the lecture I was sitting in the back of the class drawing zombies as I sometimes do.  While drawing I was being watched by a student named Skyler.  He told me that he likes to draw hamsters.  I asked him to draw one for me.  So he did.  

I give you "Hamster in a Santa Suit."

Skyler first saw this hamster on some Korean stationary that his brother (currently residing in Korea) sent to him.  Skyler likes to dress up the hamster in all kinds of costumes.

Add a sombrero and a maraca and you have "Hamster South of the Border, Down Portugal Way."

I love it.
