Gouache Pixels
I'm probably way too excited, but folks, it is happening. Very soon. Just a few more weeks.
I've got Zelda on the brain. I can't help it.

Gouache Doodle
I also really like the word "gouache." It's pronounced "gwash." Before I knew that I called it "gow-a-che."
Live and learn.

Gouache Doodle
I really should post more art on this here art blog. Here is a little gouache doodle.
I really enjoy the word "doodle." It is much fun to say aloud.

Spots
But not on dalmatians.
These are some quick spot illos I did this week. I think I'm getting close to understanding this process. Now I just need to do another 40 or 50 of these so that I can get good at it.

Leafs (!)
Fall/Autumn is great. My favorite time of year in fact. Fall/Autumn is so great that it is the only season that holds the honor of being named twice. I know right? Blows my mind too. Step back Winter; you can't handle the grandeur.
I was messing around with some paint on Sunday and I came up with this. (gouache and ink)

Talent Show
This was a fun idea but I'm not sure I pulled off the color quite right. I'm going to take another pass at the color later. Any suggestions?

Behold the Stupid
I was forced into this against my will. This is only partially my fault. Other than that, I offer no explanation or excuse.

Tire Swing
I feel like I'm really starting to get a handle on that elusive beast called "style." It's funny to me that when I stop trying to find my style it jumps out from behind a corner and yells, "Boo!"

I had a ton of fun with this one.

A Bit More Photoshop Compositing
A couple of experiments. I really feel like I'm on to something here.

Hmm, the color went a bit wonky on these. I'm not sure why but they got a bit washed out.

A New Process?
I'm trying out a few new things. First I'm trying to create something cute without being saccharine. Second I'm trying out a mixed media process that I think gives good results quickly. I'm going to have to play with this process to see how far I can push it, but I am pleased so far.

Southern Utah is Where It's At
Last week a bunch of Illustration and Animation Kids took a trip down to Southern Utah on a painting/sketching trip. We hit Zion National Park, Kolob Canyon and a tiny bit of Bryce Canyon. In short it was wicked cool.
Here are some of the sketch paintings I did (you don't get to see the big mistakes.) These were all done in gouache on paper and board. None of them were bigger than about 8 inches on the longest side.

A black and white study of some cool rocks.

The circus came to town briefly and lent me it's color scheme for this one.

Most beautiful rocks I saw on the whole trip. There were more colors on them than I knew what to do with.

This last one is my favorite. It's the view of a ridge from a ghost town called Grafton. I had never been to a ghost town before but the place had all these really cool old abandoned buildings. With all these buildings around I decided to paint something that was at least 30 miles away. Just silly.

Time For Another Parade
I'm starting a new art blog. My old blog is testifying in a major federal case and had to go into the Witness Protection Program. Either that or the title/url of my old blog was just too dang pretentious and hard to remember. Hopefully this one is easier and less pretentious by at least 60%.
I thought I would celebrate my new blog with an illustration of some kids getting into trouble.

If you want to check out any of the stuff on my old blog you can see that here.
I hope this blog can stay out of trouble.
