Picture Book Marathon 2011 - Day 6

Plot Summary: our Main Character (let's call him Quentin) loves his little metal cars so very, very much.  And the blue one happens to be his favorite.  And then it goes missing.  And Quentin goes to every room in the house blaming his brothers and sisters for the disappearance.  In the end it turns out to be somewhere Quentin would never have guessed.

When I was a kid I was always losing things.  And with 5 siblings there were plenty of people to blame it on instead of myself.

This cover is based on a true story.  Early this morning when my wife went down to the parking garage she noticed that the car was gone (kind of hard to miss really.)  We both immediately thought the car was stolen.  Bad news.

After my brain woke up a bit more I vaguely remembered driving the car to a friend's house on Saturday but I didn't recall driving it home.  Turns out that I left the car at this friend's house for a couple of days and just walked the two blocks home without thinking about it.

That's the biggest thing I've ever lost.  Good thing it didn't go far.

Frank Passes On

I'm not sure to which afterlife he is headed (probably Valhalla) but Frank Frizetta passed away this afternoon.  His work was of mostly ridiculous things like barbarians fighting the undead, but what can I say?  I love the guy's work (mostly.)  He was dang good at what he did.

Bye Frank.  Say "hi" to Odin for me.

A recent sketchbook page.  What, doesn't everybody draw cows with delusions of grandeur in their spare bits of time?  I can't be the only one.

Submarine Tacos

Something I'm working on.  It might make more sense when I include the octopus in the submarine as the taco vendor.  It might also make less sense with an octopus included in the scene.

I can't wait to paint this one.

Recent Happenings

It's been a fun week. Last night Tiffany (my beautiful wife) and I attended the 6th-grade cotillon (dance.) It's a fun little formal get together for the kids and we went because Tiffany is one of the 6th-grade teachers. After the dance we went to Macaroni Grill which is always fun because they cover the tables with white paper. And then they give me crayons. What's a guy to do? This is what I did.

Yup, a slime monster fighting a rocket robot with sword hands. We left it at the restaurant for the bus boy to take home and put it on his wall.

Language Arts

This is a bit of writing that I did for a group I belong to. We each wrote a story of about 500 words and they have been and continue to be posted on the group's blog one story per day in April. I say any excuse to write is a good excuse.

I got the idea for this one while helping my wife, Tiffany grade papers (she's a sixth grade teacher.) There are some kids in the class whose papers we actually look forward to grading because they are so funny. Sometimes this humor is intentional and other times it is accidental.

This is only a test. Had this been a real homework assignment the spelling and punctuation would have been much worse.

Bunky is Fully Awesome

This is fun stuff.  I didn't illustrate this; that honor goes to my amiga Michelle Weaver.  I just did the writing.

A word about Bunky.  He is half rabbit and half monkey.  Bunky is a stuffed animal that Michelle had when she was just a wee lass growing up on Long Island.  Bunky moved out west with Michelle and has somehow managed to gain a following of devoted fans.  Joe Olson even made a Bunky fan art.  

Don't ask me how these things happen.  They just do.  Enjoy at your own risk.
